The Walking Dead casts Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan

After a long and vast casting search, Jeffery Dean Morgan has been selected to play the villain Negan in The Walking Dead.

The Grey’s Anatomy and Supernatural star reportedly beat a host of other talented actors including including Timothy Olyphant, Matt Dillon and Garret Dillahunt to nab the coveted role. Morgan is no stranger to playing evil characters as he portrayed the morally corrupt Comedian in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (2008).

Fans of Robert Kirkman’s extremely popular comics have eagerly awaited the arrival of the nefarious Negan and according to The Hollywood Reporter, they’ll get their wish when the character will debut in the final episode of season 6 next spring.

Negan’s first appearance in the comics came in issue #100 and from there the ruthless, foul-mouthed, baseball swinging lunatic became a cult figure. He notoriously kills a major character in the comics and it will be very interesting how (or if) that will play out onscreen.

The Walking Dead hasn’t had a significant big bad since season 4’s The Governor (played by David Morrissey), so while Negan’s arrival spells very bad news for Rick and co, it’s extremely exciting for us fans.
