“You know nothing Jon Snow” is one of the most memorable lines of dialogue from the smash hit fantasy show Game of Thrones.

Well it seems that GoT fans may now know something major as today HBO teased something very interesting for season six. On their official Twitter account HBO tweeted a teaser poster for the upcoming season which featured a bloody Kit Harington as Jon Snow. This suggest that Jon Snow, who of course died in the last scene of the season five finale, will rise from the dead and return to the show. Check out the tweet below:

If this is the case then many GoT will be over the moon as Jon Snow had become without doubt one of the most beloved characters in the show. Fans were both shocked and heartbroken when he was viciously stabbed to death by members of the Night’s Watch who labelled him a traitor. If he does return back to life, then expect the formerly-deceased Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch to exact some sort of revenge on his killers.

Rumours of Jon Snow’s resurrection had been swirling around ever since  Kit Hartington was spotted on GoT Belfast set a couple of months ago. Then Ian McShane, who will join the cast of GoT next season in an undisclosed role, added further fuel to fire when he was quoted in an interview Pop Goes the News as saying:

“I’ll give you one hint: I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that. [It’s] a one-off episode. That’s why I did it. But I can’t reveal anything, otherwise I will never work again.”

GoT fans are of course very used to seeing beloved characters bite the dust in unbelievable twists of fate. The execution of Jon Snow’s father Ned Stark set the standard for unforeseen character deaths, while the death of his mother Catelyn and brother Rob at the infamous Red Wedding took the show’s shock value to another level entirely.

It’ll be interesting to see how Jon Snow is reincarnated in season six. In season three episode five the red priest Thoros of Myr  brought Berric Dondarrison back to life after he was killed in battle with The Hound. With Jon Snow developing a strange relationship with the mysterious red priestess Melisandre, maybe The Red Woman is his source of revitalisation.

Whatever the case we all have a new reason, if we ever needed one, to eagerly anticipate the new season of GoT. Hopefully Jon Snow’s return will feel a lot more satisfying than the Glenn saga which was just recently resolved in The Walking Dead.

Game of Thrones returns to television screens in April 2016.
