Last night Christmas came early for many film fans around the world as the highly anticipated teaser trailer for Captain America: Civil War hit the web. The upcoming Marvel movie will see Captain America (Chris Evans) square off against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) in an epic superhero showdown with the rest of the Avengers choosing sides. Check out the awesome trailer below:
Caught your breath back yet? Well feast you’re eye on these amazing posters.
From the teaser it looks like Captain America and Iron Man will come to blows over Cap’s protection of his best friend Bucky/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and the government’s plan to monitor the activities of all heroes.
If Captain America and Iron Man weren’t enough , Civil War will feature Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Vision (Paul Bettany) and Scarlett Witch (Maggie Olson). So basically every hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe apart from Thor, the Hulk and the Guardians and the Galaxy. Civil War has often been described as ‘Avengers 2.5’ and it certainly looks to be that way. There were some concerns that Downey Jnr’s involvement would lead Civil War to turn into Captain America 3/Iron Man 4 but the trailer suggests that although Tony Stark will have a big presence, the film will be very Cap-focused.
While not much plot-wise was revealed, the teaser showed some very exciting things. We caught our very first glimpse of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) in action who will make his MCU debut in the film before leading his own solo movie in 2018.
We also saw Cap and the Winter Soldier make a formidable tag team to take on Iron Man in the mind-blowing final shot.
The return of William Hurt as General Thunderbolt Ross is very intriguing as we’ve not seen the character since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.
What Tom Holland as the brand new Spider-Man will look like still remains a mystery but expect Marvel to keep their cards close to their chest regarding the web-slinger similar to the way that Luke Skywalker is being hidden from the marketing for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. We also didn’t get to see Daniel Bruhl’s villainous Baron Zemo but it’ll be interesting to see how he will fits into things too.
Captain America: Civil War, loosely based on Mark Millar’s 2006 popular comic storyline, will kick off Marvel’s Phase 3 and round off the trilogy of Cap films. Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will return to direct Civil War after helming 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier which grossed a massive $700 million worldwide and was well received by critics and fans alike. Hopefully the Russo’s can replicate The Winter Soldier’s high success and quality with Civil War.
Of course Cap vs Iron Man isn’t the only cinematic battle of the superheroes as Warner Bros/DC’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theatres just two months before Civil War does. With Batman V Superman and Captain America: Civil War both dropping pretty close to each other, Spring 2016 needs to hurry up.
In the meantime check out my countdown of 10 Vs movies I want to see.
Captain America: Civil War will be release on May 6 2016.
